Shreveport Police Officer Injured Attempting to Take Suspect into Custody
A Shreveport Police officer sustained minor injuries yesterday morning while making an arrest. The incident occurred around 9:20 AM in the 1100 block of Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, where the off-duty officer was working an extra-duty assignment. Personnel from a local business requested the officer’s assistance in dealing with an irate customer who was reportedly causing a disturbance.
Upon arrival, the officer attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Raymond Johnson, refused to leave the premises, and struck the officer in the face, forcing the officer to take further action. During the ensuing struggle, both the officer and Johnson fell through a glass window, resulting in an injury to the officer's upper body. Despite this, the officer managed to successfully take Johnson into custody.
Johnson now faces multiple charges, including one count of criminal property damage, one count of entering and remaining after being forbidden, one count of resisting an officer with force or violence, and one count of threatening a public official.
The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
Shreveport police officials say:
This incident serves as a reminder of the daily challenges our officers face as they work to de-escalate volatile situations in our community. We are grateful that no one sustained serious injuries.
