
Sneak Peek: What the New Shreveport Police Headquarters Will Look Like
Construction is expected to begin after the first of the year on the new police headquarters building in Shreveport. Bids were opened this week and the project is ready to move forward.

Part of the existing building will be completely gutted and restored while part of the existing building will be demolished.
Here's what the new HQ is expected to look like:
In 2021 voters passed one of five bond proposals on the ballot. The only measure that passed was for public safety. It called for $69 million dollars in improvements for police and fire projects.
The new headquarters building is being constructed specifically to function as a police station. It has been designed based on best practices for police facilities with limited entrances for the public and heightened security measures in place.
Voters in 2021 spoke loud and clear about the priorities in the city. The only measure that passed was for the police and fire measures.
Here's the Vote on the Public Safety 2021 Election:
Yes: 9,202 votes (59%)
No: 6,345 votes (41%)
This proposition included funding for a new police headquarters as well as fire department vehicles/facilities.
The other four propositions in 2021 were rejected by voters.

Central Police Headquarters $27.5 million
Shreveport Police Dept. Substations $4.5 million
City Jail Maintenance & Improvements $2 million
Emergency Mobile Command Center $1 million
Street Lighting $5 million

How Big Will the New SPD Headquarters Be
The current headquarters is more than 100,000 square feet. The new complex will be about 60,000 square feet. It will be a 3-story complex. It's expected to be complete by the end of 2027.
