Shreveport Council and Parish Commission to Hold Joint Meeting
Discussion could heat up this week on what should happen with the Metropolitan Planning Commission.
Councilman James Flurry wants a reorganization or even disbanding the group, but it also involves the parish. So, the Shreveport City Council and the Parish Commission will hold a joint meeting later this week to talk about the Metropolitan Planning Commission and its leadership.
The meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Sky Box at Independence Stadium.
Here's what's on the agenda for the meeting:
I. Welcome and Chair Comments - Jeff Everson, City Councilman
II. MPC Financial Sustainability Study Presentation - Mark Sweeney, MPC Executive Director
III. Open Discussion of City/Parish Participation on the MPC Board
IV. Proposed Next Steps and Time Frame – Councilman Willie Bradford
Some local leaders have proposed doing away with the MPC and instead handling planning and zoning in-house. That idea has been on the table for several months. Both the city and the parish contribute to funding for the MPC and appoint members to the MPC Board.
