After some tense moments during a Shreveport City Council meeting this week, the City Attorney has issued a statement about who is handling the response to needs from the family impacted by the devastating mass shooting in Cedar Grove on April 19.

Marcus Edwards says

Following the tragic events of April 19, personnel from the City of Shreveport have worked to assist survivors and their families by helping connect them with available City resources and support services. No City employee has received, handled, or accepted any funds on behalf of the families or the City of Shreveport in connection with these efforts.

But the statement also says moving forward, families who need help from the city should be in touch with the Department of Community Development at (318) 673-
5900. The department will serve as the point of contact for available City support services moving forward.

Some concerns have surfaced about how an employee of the city council was being used to help coordinate services and support for the families. The council even went into executive session to discuss that employees efforts. But no action was taken by the council after that closed-door session.

But City Attorney Edwards says "the City of Shreveport remains committed to supporting all those affected by this tragedy and is grateful for the continued compassion, generosity, and prayers of the community during this difficult time."
