The end of summer is near. I know, I hate to be the one to remind you about that. Several community organizations across Northwest Louisiana are gearing up to help local students get back to the classroom. Many of these agencies are holding school supply drives, giveaways, and resource fairs.

Here is the current lineup of back-to-school events across Shreveport and Bossier City:

Bossier Chamber of Commerce: "Pack the Bus"

The Bossier Chamber of Commerce will host its annual "Pack the Bus" donation drive to benefit public school students throughout Bossier Parish. Community members are encouraged to drop off essential school supplies directly at the collection site.

Date: Thursday, July 30, 2026

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Location: Walmart Supercenter, 2536 Airline Drive, Bossier City

Who Is Eligible: Bossier Parish public school students needing assistance.

Requested Donations: Backpacks, notebook paper, composition books, folders, glue sticks, crayons, markers, colored pencils, No. 2 pencils, pens, scissors, dry-erase markers, headphones, and pencil boxes.

22nd Annual African American Celebration Parade Committee Giveaway

Registration is officially underway for this long-running regional initiative, which has provided more than 36,000 pairs of new shoes to local students since it started.

Registration: Families can sign up at the Shopper Value Foods on North Market Street through Wednesday, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Distribution Date: Saturday, July 11, 2026

Location: Walmart on Pines Road

Requirements: Parents must bring a photo ID, proof of government assistance, and their children must be present to participate.

Annual Rice & Kendig Backpack Giveaway

The law firm of Rice & Kendig will host its annual drive-thru community giveaway, distributing 400 free backpacks fully stocked with essential classroom supplies.

Date: Tuesday, July 28, 2026

Time: 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Location: Rice & Kendig Office, 1030 Kings Highway, Shreveport

Requirements: Supplies are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be present to receive a backpack.

Common Ground Community Back-to-School Giveaway

Hosted annually by Common Ground Community Inc., this event provides free school supplies to families living in Shreveport’s historic Cedar Grove neighborhood.

Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Location: Common Ground Community Center, 6806 Southern Avenue, Shreveport

They also pass out kid-friendly snacks and groceries.

Requirements: Backpacks are first-come, first-served. Children must be present with an adult.

7th Annual HTS Community Back-to-School Outreach & Resource Fair

HTS Community is expanding its annual outreach this year by welcoming families into its brand-new facility. The event is designed to connect families from Shreveport, Blanchard, Mooringsport, Oil City, Vivian, and surrounding areas with long-term support networks.

Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Location: HTS Community Resource Hub, 2627 Centenary Blvd., Suite B, Shreveport

Offerings: Free backpacks, school supplies, music, educational support, and healthcare resource tables.

Call for Action: HTS is currently seeking additional school supply donations, community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and resource providers.

Annual Galilee Baptist Church Back-to-School Giveaway

Galilee Baptist Church will host an expansive neighborhood event at its family facility, offering a wide array of complimentary personal care services alongside traditional school supply distributions.

Date: Saturday, August 9, 2026

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Location: Family Life Center, 1500 Pierre Avenue, Shreveport

Free backpacks filled with supplies. They will also have food and music and will be providing free hair braiding, and haircuts.

Children must be present to receive a backpack.

SporTran Drive-Thru Back to School Bash

Shreveport's public transit system, SporTran, is hosting a quick-access, drive-thru supply distribution to ensure local families can safely and efficiently gather needed materials.

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Location: Hattie Perry Recreational Center, 4300 Ledbetter Street, Shreveport

Requirements: Admission is free. School supply kits are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Children must be present inside the vehicle to receive a kit.

Roy’s Kids Backpack Drive

Roy's Kids is in the process of collecting back packs and supplies to help local students. You can drop off donations at the Roy’s Kids Headquarters at 2601 Highland Avenue, Shreveport. Clear back packs are in high demand.

These supplies will be handed out directly to children in need.
