Shreveport Police Crack-Down on Underage Alcohol Sales
According to Shreveport Police, there has been a recent surge in underage drinking and illegal sales of alcohol.
Shreveport Police Department’s Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance (ABO) Office, along with the Vice Unit, launched an initiative called Operation "Last Call” over the weekend.
The operation worked to ensure compliance with both local, and state alcohol regulations. It also worked to promote a safer environment for all people trying to enjoy Shreveport's night-life.
SPD did compliance checks on 41 businesses throughout the city. The checks included bars, liquor stores, and convenience stores. These checks resulted in 40 violations including 15 arrests for sale of alcohol to minors and operating without an ABO permit.
Operation "Last Call" was considered a success by SPD, and is a credit to the commitment SPD has to public safety and safe business practices. One message is definitely clear: Violations of alcohol laws will not be tolerated.
Chief Wayne Smith had this to say:
“We want everyone to enjoy Shreveport’s nightlife, but it must be done responsibly and within the boundaries of the law. These proactive operations will continue as we work to protect our youth and support businesses that follow the rules.”
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department remains dedicated to taking meaningful action to keep the community safe and to hold accountable those who endanger others by disregarding alcohol laws."
