Shreveport Firefighters responded to two fires early Tuesday morning in Shreveport. The first fire was at the Fairmont Apartments in the 700 Blk. of Cotton Street and the second fire occurred at a home in the 400 Blk. of East Dalzell in the Stoner Hill neighborhood.

Firefighters were first dispatched to the Fairmont Apartments, a thirteen story residential building in downtown Shreveport, at 5:18 am for a possible apartment fire. Firefighters from Central Fire Station arrived on scene at 5:22 a.m. and found smoke on the third floor. They were able to locate the source of the smoke, a cooking fire in an apartment on the third floor. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze containing the fire and damage to the stove top.

All occupants of the building were initially evacuated and after the fire was extinguished allowed back into the lobby area. Firefighter used electric exhaust fans to remove the smoke from the building. Once the smoke was removed all occupants were allowed back into their apartments. Firefighters transported one female to a local hospital, who fell while evacuating her apartment. They also treated a maintenance worker on-scene. The incident commander; Battalion Chief G. Newsome; placed the situation at the Fairmont under control at 5:33 a.m.

At 6:41 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to the 400 Blk. of East Dalzell for a house on fire. Engine 5 arrived on scene at 6:45 a.m. and reported a working house fire. The two occupants of the home were able to escape unharmed prior to the arrival of SFD. It took eight units, consisting of twenty-two firefighters, thirty-two minutes to bring the situation under control. The home sustained heavy damage and the cause of the fire is under investigations at this time. There were no injuries reported.
