Fire Chief Clarence Reese says the 7-year-old girl remains in critical condition. She is the sister of the 5-year-old victim. The two girls were visiting with their grandmother and great grandmother.....the other two victims. Chief Reese says the 7-year-old managed to call her mother before she was apparently overcome by smoke.

The Caddo Parish Coroner released the names of the three that did not make it out of the fire in time.

From the Coroner:

"Eureka Garner, 56, was pronounced deceased at 7:35 a.m. at Ochsner LSU Health hospital. Ne-Vaeh Garner, 5, was pronounced deceased at 7:38 a.m. at Ochsner. And Mildred Carter, 84, was pronounced deceased at 8:56 a.m. at Willis-Knighton Medical Center on Greenwood Road."

City officials have also been impacted with Mayor Tom Arceneaux and Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor being on the scene of the tragic fire alongside Fire Chief Clarence Reese.

Councilwoman Taylor had this to say about the impacted families in her district and the firefighters that fought so hard to save lives:

“We must wrap this family in compassion. And we must also keep our firefighters and first responders in our prayers. What they faced was incredibly difficult, and they showed up with courage and heart.”

Mayor Tom Arceneaux also expressed deep condolences to the family.

“There are no words that can fully express the sorrow we feel as a city. This family, this neighborhood, and our entire community are heartbroken. I ask all Shreveporters to join me in lifting them up in prayer and support.”

The cause of this fire is still under investigation, and this story will be updated as information is forthcoming.
