SHREVEPORT, LA – Despite consumer uncertainty over tariffs and the economy, Louisiana residents are expected to spend millions of dollars on Easter goods this year. In fact, nationwide spending for Easter is likely to close in on $23.6 billion. This would close in on the record spent in 2023 of $24 billion.

The annual survey from the National Retail Federation puts last year’s Easter spending at $22.4 billion.

One of the biggest increases you will see this year will be on eggs. Prices for eggs continue to rise and that might force folks to pivot to plastic eggs for some events this year.

NRF Vice President of Industry and Consumer Insights Katherine Cullen says

“As we witnessed throughout the pandemic, holidays such as Easter are especially meaningful for Americans during times of uncertainty. During this time of economic uncertainty, consumers are prioritizing their Easter celebrations, and retailers are ready to help them enjoy this special occasion with loved ones.”

What Will We Be Buying for Easter?

The data shows the most popular item we will be snapping up this year includes candy followed by food and gifts. Many folks will also be buying Easter decorations. And a large percentage of consumers will also be buying special outfits for Easter.

The NRF Report says shoppers are likely to spend about $7.4 billion on food, $3.8 billion on gifts, $3.5 billion on clothing, $3.3 billion on candy, $1.9 billion on flowers and $1.7 billion on decorations.

The big spending on food is connected to that special Easter dinner with the family. Half of those surveyed say they plan to cook a holiday spread for Easter. I was kind of surprised by the worship numbers. Only 45% of those surveyed say they plan to attend Easter services this year. Easter is usually one of the biggest days for church attendance.

More than half of all American families are also getting ready to have an Easter egg hunt at their homes this year. I bet many folks will be using plastic eggs this year and not real eggs.

Where Are We Buying Easter Supplies This Year?

Discount and dollar stores are the top spots for buying holiday products this year. The report says 55% of us will visit one of these stores for Easter items. 44% will shop at department stores while 36% will shop online.

This survey included answers from nearly 8,000 consumers about their Easter shopping plans. It was conducted March 3-7.
