On Monday evening, Memorial Day 2023, the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office held a DWI checkpoint in the Haughton, LA area resulting in multiple arrests and citations.

The checkpoint was held Monday, May 29, 2023, in the 5100 block of Highway 527 in Haughton, LA, area near Koran. A total of 188 vehicles were screened during the checkpoint and one traffic stop was conducted. Deputies performed 6 standardized field sobriety tests, resulting in 2 DWI arrests. Other citations were made during the operation for Driving Under Suspension, No Child Restraint, Open Container, and Littering.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington said, “I’m proud of our deputies who are willing to come in on a holiday and identify and arrest people who have decided to endanger others.” Sheriff Whittington went on to say, "Compliance with impaired driving laws is our goal, but unfortunately, not everyone follows those laws.' BPSO Deputy and Traffic/Motors/DRE/Impaired Driving Coordinator added, "Thankfully, Bossier Parish has sheriff’s deputies who are willing to do the hard job of impaired driving enforcement even if it’s a holiday."

The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Louisiana State Police for this operation and funds were provided by a grant awarded to the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission impaired driving grant.
