Bad news for Louisiana today. We are near the top of the list of lazy states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released results of a new study on physical activity and only Oklahoma and Arkansas are home to more couch potatoes.

The study combined data from 2015 through 2018.

But looking across the nation, 15% of all Americans are considered physically inactive. The question that solicited that data was “During the past month, other than your regular job, did you participate in any physical activities or exercises such as running, calisthenics, golf, gardening, or walking for exercise?” Those folks answered no.

Here are the worst performing states: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. 30% of adults in these states are physically inactive.

Which states are the best performers? Residents of Colorado, Washington, Utah, Oregon and the District of Columbia were the most active in the country.

Doctors at the CDC say you should get 150 minutes of physical activity each week, or 30 minutes a day for 5 days.
