Man Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter in Caddo Court
A Waskom, Texas man on trial in Caddo Court for a traffic collision that led to another man's death pleaded guilty Monday, to vehicular homicide.
In July of 2023, 60 year-old Rodney Dan Lemay, was driving home from work in the 6900 block of Woolworth Road when he swerved over the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle driven by Jeffrey Merritt head-on. Mr. Merritt, 60, had to be pulled from his vehicle.
Meritt was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Due to the serious injuries involved, toxicology samples were taken from Lemay while in custody, that determined Lemay had methamphetamine in his system.
The District Judge sentenced Lemay to serve 10 years at hard labor, with three years of the sentence to be served without probation, parole or suspension of sentence. Lemay also was ordered to pay a fine of $2,000.
From the Caddo DA:
"Lemay was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Courtney N. Ray. He was defended by Michael Enright.
The case was docket No. 399951."
