Good or Bad? What is Shreveport’s Average Credit Score?

As Black Friday has come and gone, the Christmas shopping season is now in full swing.  Shoppers are hitting the stores and online sites looking for the best deals.  And sometimes to get the best deals, you might need a little financing help.  And that's where a good credit score can make a huge difference in what you'll pay for your purchases.

According to the website credit.org, credit scores range from 300-850, with the average credit score nationwide around 710.  As a general rule, the higher your credit score, the better finance rates you are able to obtain.  There are things you can, and should be doing to lower, or maintain your credit score, including:
Paying your bills on time- this is the best way to help lower your score.
Keeping your balances low- Maxed out accounts hurt your credit score
Keep Accounts Open- Length of credit is a plus
Don't Open New Accounts- Anytime a creditor does an inquiry, it dings your credit score and shortens your credit history.

National Ranking of Cities Average Credit Scores

Wallethub does an annual ranking of cities across the country and their average credit scores.  The Top Ten cities and their credit rankings are:

Bossier City tied with 22 other cities including Baton Rouge, Tyler, TX, and Lake Charles, LA at 2132 with a credit score of 669.  Ruston, LA comes in at 2205 with an average credit score of 666.  Shreveport didn't fare well at all.  We weren't in the bottom ten, but we weren't far from it, coming in ranked 2434, with an average credit score of 649.
