
Shreveport Gathers for National Night Out on October 6
It is almost time for National Night Out in Shreveport. The big night is on Tuesday, October 6. This event gives neighbors a chance to get outside while this weather is incredible and meet the folks that live right around you. This can help build relationships that can make neighborhoods safer. The City of Shreveport says the event is designed to increase awareness of crime and drug prevention, strengthen neighborhood spirit and build partnerships between residents and police.
How to Get to Know Your Neighbors in Shreveport
The main purpose for National Night Out is to help local residents learn who lives around them and get familiar with the folks in the neighborhood.
One of the big benefits for this special night is to help combat crime across the community. If you know your neighbors, you are more likely to keep an eye out for them and the folks around you. You are encouraged to turn on your porch lights and put away those cell phones for National Night Out and get outdoors and spend some quality time with your neighbors.
Lots of folks will be holding block parties and grilling out for the night. Many will also rent bounce houses and other attractions for youngsters.
Shreveport Police and Neighbors Working Together
You will also have a chance to meet Shreveport police officers during National Night Out since many of them will be stopping by several of the neighborhood gatherings.
The City says the event is intended to strengthen police-community partnerships and send a message that neighborhoods are organized and working together against crime.
Who Should Participate in Shreveport's National Night Out
Anyone who is interested in getting to know the folks around them is encouraged to take part in this annual event. Families, children, seniors, longtime residents and people who have just moved into the area are all encouraged to step outside and learn about the people who live near you.
You don't have to have a big elaborate event. You could just throw a small get together with a few families. This will help build comradery in your neck of the woods.
Community Renewal International is also encouraging Shreveport residents to register gatherings ranging from full-block cookouts to front-porch gatherings and driveway get-togethers.
