A Shreveport woman is facing charges after investigators say she struck a bicyclist, fled the scene, and later disposed of evidence connected to the crash.

Earlier this month, Shreveport Police were called to Portland Avenue following reports of a hit-and-run involving a bicyclist. Officers found a 58 year-old man lying in the roadway, unresponsive but breathing. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Ochsner LSU Health for emergency treatment.

Witnesses told SPD investigators that the driver remained at the scene briefly before driving off as Shreveport Fire Department showed up to help.

An investigation involving surveillance footage, gave Shreveport Police Detectives what they needed to identify the suspected driver as 30 year-old Markquelesha Taylor of Shreveport. Earlier this week, Taylor was interviewed by investigators. After being read her Miranda rights, Taylor admitted she was driving when she hit the bicyclist, who she claimed entered the roadway in front of her.

Taylor also admitted that after leaving the crash scene, she disposed of evidence connected to the incident. Taylor has been charged with:

· Felony Hit and Run

· Obstruction of Justice

· Switched License Plates

· No Proof of Insurance

· No Driver’s License

· Failure to Register Vehicle

From SPD:

"The Shreveport Police Department reminds motorists that leaving the scene of a serious crash is not only a crime, but can also deprive injured victims of critical assistance.

In this case, a man was left seriously injured in the roadway, and investigators allege the driver not only fled but later attempted to conceal evidence of her involvement. Our investigators worked diligently to identify the driver and hold her accountable. The Shreveport Police Department will continue to aggressively investigate hit-and-run crashes, particularly those that leave victims fighting for their lives."
