Though his time as a member of the United States House of Representatives is quite short (about three weeks), Congressman Mike Johnson from Louisiana's 4th district presided over that august legislative body for the first time Monday evening.

Earlier in the day, Johnson announced via social media:

"Tonight I will be given the great privilege of presiding for the first time over the U.S. House of Representatives. I am truly grateful to the people of Louisiana's 4th Congressional District who have provided me with this humbling opportunity to hold the same gavel that so many honorable statesmen have held throughout our nation's history."

Johnson, who has already been named to the House Judiciary and Natural Resources Committees, is the newest member of the just-sworn-in 115th Congress.
