Boyd Gaming, the parent company of Louisiana based gaming properties Sam's Town in Shreveport, Evangeline Downs, Delta Downs, and several other properties throughout the state has notified the Louisiana Department of Workforce Development of impending layoffs at several of its locations including the Shreveport property.

The WARN notice stated that the company was preparing to lay off hundreds of workers across the state.

According to KATC Television here are the numbers:

Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino (Shreveport) 414
Treasure Chest Casino (Kenner) 340
Amelia Belle Casino (Amelia) 170
Delta Downs Racetrack Casino and Hotel (Vinton) 354
Evangeline Downs Racetrack Casino (Opelousas) 246

A company spokesperson said the layoffs were necessary because mandatory closures, guest limitations imposed by state, federal, and local governing bodies, and the general economic conditions that have impacted so many businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When asked if the layoffs would be permanent that same spokesperson suggested that 25% to 60% of the layoffs at Evangeline Downs could last six months or longer. Those employees not affected by the layoff but that have been furloughed could expect that furlough to last even longer depending on when economic conditions improve.
