Bossier Council Remains Defiant Over Term Limits
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The battle over term limits in Bossier City is still causing drama and hard feelings. A judge ruled Monday in favor of a Bossier woman who filed suit to try to force the City Council to follow the charter and put the term limits issue on the ballot for voters to decide if term limits should be adopted.
Cassie Rogers won the lawsuit against the Council and she stepped before the panel to express her displeasure.
Rogers called the council action "fraud, waste and abuse."
She added:
To those of you who continue to fight the citizens on this, you are wrong. The judge said you are wrong. We proved it in court. The judgment was in our favor. You can continue to fight us. We are paying for our lawyers. You are not paying for your lawyers. If it means that much to you, I encourage you to get a private lawyer and put your money where your mouth is.
Mayor Tommy Chandler asked the Council to consider adopting the Term Limits resolution and moving it to the ballot, but the panel voted 3-3 not to add the item to the agenda. It would have taken a unanimous vote to add the matter to the agenda.
Bossier District Judge Parker Self has ruled and ordered the City of Bossier City and the City Council to "perform its non discretionary/ mandatory duty of calling an election to submit to the voters the proposed propositions which would serve to amend the City Charter as proposed in this petition."
But at least one councilmember is reportedly considering an appeal of the district judge's ruling.
