Are a Handful of People Keeping the I-49 Inner City Connector From Being Built? [VIDEO]
101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty talks about the latest twists and turns in the ongoing saga of the I-49 Inner City Connector, including Erin's Thursday night experience at a meeting of the anti-ICC community group, Allendale Strong.
The pro-ICC McCarty, who has said that "not building the Inner City Connector would be this city's biggest mistake in a century," attended the get together at the urging of Allendale Strong leader and recent KEEL guest, John Perkins.
During the on-air segment, Erin doubled down on her position, emphasizing that of the twenty folks at the meeting, only seven were actually Allendale residents. McCarty also mentioned hearing the oft repeated objections to building the controversial 3.9 mile thoroughfare, centering around the displacement of area residents and what they see as inflated economic impact numbers.
Meanwhile, RJW brought up that, despite protestations "that we're not winning" during his KEEL interview, the Allendale Strong group, though small in number, are all that is keeping the $500 million dollar highway project from becoming a reality.
