State Representative Alan Seabaugh, running for reelection this fall, talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about his campaign, his differences with Governor John Bel Edwards on state finances and his thoughts on improving Louisiana's economy and attracting jobs.

Seabaugh who fought with Edwards over the Governor's position that the state was facing major deficits, says, "...(the governor's) whole plan to raise taxes was to blow spending through the roof and get deeper into your pockets. The three special (tax raising) sessions we went through last year were completely unnecessary and we knew it going in."

Seabaugh had maintained that that the Edwards claims that the state was facing a $600 million deficit was really "just the governor's spending wish list" and that Louisiana is mandated by law to pass a balanced budget.

The state eventually ended up with a $300 million surplus, which the Shreveport representative says shows that the state had plenty of money all along.

Republican Seabaugh faces a challenge from Democrat Brian Salvatore in the October general election.
