Welcome To The MLB: Justin Grimm Wins His Major League Debut

It didn’t take Rangers pitcher Justin Grimm (1-0, 4.50 ERA) long to get to the Major Leagues, it also didn’t take long for Astros hitters to figure him out early.

After allowing 3 runs early, including a towering Jed Lowrie homer in the top of the 1st inning, and two RBI’s by Justin Maxwell and Jordan Schafer in the top of the 5th inning, Grimm was effective and got the job done. That’s great for a pitcher who only pitched Double-A baseball, and was drafted only two years ago!

The Rangers’ powerful offense was able to support Grimm, and perhaps give him a comfortable feeling of pitching in the big show in the future.

In a entertaining bottom of the 6th inning, Adrian Beltre singled to left to score center fielder Craig Gentry, and Ian Kinsler.

Then Nelson Cruz hit a bomb to left on the first pitch he saw in the at-bat, to bring home Michael Young and Adrian Beltre.

The offense carried over into the next inning, Ian Kinsler wanted to add to his RBI totals and brought home Gentry, then Young brought home Ian Kinsler via the sacrifice fly.

Finally, in the bottom of the 8th inning, Mitch Moreland brought home David Murphy, courtesy of his double to center field.

Fellow rookie pitcher Robbie Ross (6-0, 1.26 ERA) was able to hold things down, for the Rangers’ 8-3 victory over the Houston Astros.

Justin Grimm, can sigh a sign of relief now that he has his first Major League victory.

Can the Rangers’ offense blow the Astros out of Arlington? Find out this afternoon at 2:05!
