While making his case for an increase in the annual salary for Shreveport's mayor, City Councilman John Nickelson, in a social media post, compared the city bosses income against other local leaders.

Nickelson, who co-sponsored the measure (with Councilman Jerry Bowman), pointed out that the current mayor's pay of $96,000 per year is markedly less than that of a number of others, both elected and non-elected.

"In evaluating this legislation," says Nickelson, "I ask that you contrast our Mayor’s present salary of approximately $95,000 with the following salaries of ten different chief executives of public organizations in our community as reported to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor."

So, here are the offices - with names added, to be fair - the councilman included for comparison:

Caddo-Bossier Port Commission Executive Director (Eric England): $292,683

Caddo Parish School Board Superintendent (Dr. Lamar Goree): $260,625

Caddo Parish Commission Parish Administrator (Dr. Woody Wilson): $215,494

Caddo Parish Clerk of Court (Mike Spence): $178,048

Caddo Parish Tax Assessor (Charles Henington): $172,515

Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau CEO (Stacy Brown): $165,815
First Judicial District District Attorney (James Stewart): $149,569
Shreve Memorial Library Executive Director (John Tuggle): $133,412
Caddo Levee District Administrator-Secretary (Ali Mustapha): $130,385
Downtown Development Authority Executive Director (Liz Swaine): $119,408
