The US Supreme Court will not hear the case over the Confederate Monument in front of the Caddo Courthouse. This ruling essentially ends the long saga over the removal of the monument.

A release from the Parish reads:

“Today the United States Supreme Court denied the petition of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) for a writ of certiorari in the Shreveport Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy vs. Caddo Parish Commission.

The denial of the writ upholds the previous decision of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, which affirmed the trial court’s ruling in favor of the Parish, dismissing the lawsuit.

“The Parish is pleased that we have additional confirmation that we have the right to decide whether the Confederate monument can remain on the Courthouse grounds,” said Donna Frazier, Parish Attorney.”

Caddo Parish has given the UDC a timetable for removal, and recently started working on the costs of removal.

For their part, Jackie Nichols of the United Daughters of the Confederacy group told KEEL News: "Although we are disappointed by this news, we are not dissuaded in our fight to protect our monument. We fight on!''
