Texas Town Dedicates $72M High School Football Stadium
Next time you drive by one of Caddo or Bossier Parish's high school football stadiums, think about this: A Texas town with a population of fewer than 20,000 is set to christen their own football facility, and it's one that cost more than $70 million! Katy, just west of Houston, now has the honor of being home to the most expensive high school stadium ever built with a price tag of just over $72 million.
In addition to seating 12,000, Legacy Stadium features an LED lighted scoreboard, an event and banquet facility and luxury boxes. The official stadium dedication took place last week, with the schools that will call Legacy home celebrating its opening in front of their fans in a ceremony that filled the new facility. Katy school district officials say that Legacy will be home to eight Katy high school football teams, plus a number of other area prep sports, activities and competitions. The field's extravagant price tag was covered by a combination of tax dollars, private and corporate donations and naming rights.
