Bossier City police have arrested a suspect for the 2011 shooting death of a Vivian man. Detectives with the Bossier City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit with the assistance of the United States Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force arrested 26-year old Michael Ray Madden of Greenwood late this afternoon just hours after a Bossier Parish grand jury indicted him on a charge of second degree murder.

Madden is charged with the July 23, 2011 shooting death of 21-year old James Dean Smith. Smith was shot and killed as he drove his vehicle on Old Minden Road near the intersection of Benton Spur after he and a friend left the Rockin’ Rodeo on Gould Drive.

Madden is accused of driving his vehicle alongside Smith’s car and firing the round that killed Smith before fleeing the scene.

Madden was arrested at his residence in the 7900 block of Kimberly Road in Greenwood without incident and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center as a fugitive from Bossier City. He was later transferred to the Bossier City Jail. His bond is set at $250,000.
