The special session is over. Lawmakers did approve a measure to bring lower auto insurance rates to the Louisiana. The bill was passed on veto-proof lines but is less expansive than previous tort legislation that did not have the support of the Governor.

The bill passed with a few hours left in the special session.

Governor Edwards applauded this version of the bill, which was a compromise between both sides.

Lawmakers also ok'd the $34 billion dollar budget for the fiscal year that kicks off today. The Legislature also approved a series of tax breaks for COVID-impacted businesses.
