The Shreveport Volunteer Network is on the move today headed for central Texas to help with the recovery efforts in the Kerrville area.

The local group has been collecting supplies and equipment all weekend to be ready for the effort in Texas. Volunteers and supplies are on the move from Shreveport today and are expected to arrive in central Texas later this afternoon.

These folks began loading up the trailers early this morning to prepare for the trip.

What Work Will These Crews Be Doing?

One of the top priorities will be to help clear debris from the flooding. Volunteers have been told to bring chainsaws, heavy equipment and be ready to work.

Some folks in Texas have been discouraging volunteer efforts, but SVN Director Keith Bryant tells KEEL News "we are disaster managers and we know what we are doing in cases like this. We coordinate with the local disaster assistance folks to be sure we show up in the areas were help is most needed.

Bryant tells KEEL he has 5 guys headed to the area. They have loaded trailers full of supplies and heavy equipment ready to get to work once they arrive. He says they will be in the Leander, Texas area where a resource center has been set up to help residents in that region.

Bryant tells us the item most needed right now is totes. He says those big Rubbermaid storage bins are invaluable right now as residents try to salvage as much as they can. He says Lowe's helped out with a pile of totes they are bringing on this first trip.
