Shreveport Police Department to Conduct Seatbelt Checkpoint
SHREVEPORT, LA - Buckle up if you will be out and about on the roads. The Shreveport Police Department will be conducting a seatbelt checkpoint on Tuesday December 10 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM somewhere in southeast Shreveport.
SPD does not give out the exact location for obvious reasons. The purpose of this checkpoint is to enforce Louisiana’s seatbelt laws and ensure the safety of all motorists and passengers.
SPD officers will be focusing on drivers and passengers who are not in compliance with seatbelt requirements, but the scope of the checkpoint is not limited to these violations alone. Officers will also be on the lookout for drivers violating other laws. This is all part of the overall effort to reduce the number of crashes involving fatalities and serious injuries that are directly related to folks driving without buckling up.
This seatbelt checkpoint is being funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s highway safety grant to promote safer driving across the region.
The Shreveport Police Department encourages all drivers and passengers to buckle up and drive safely to reduce the risk of injury or death in the event of an accident.
SPD is also setting up a DWI checkpoint on Friday, December 6 beginning at 10:00 PM and continuing into the early morning hours of Saturday, December 7 until 4:00 AM. The operation will take place in the north end of Shreveport as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to deter impaired driving and arrest those who engage in this dangerous behavior.
