A Shreveport man accused of shooting his former girlfriend who is the mother of his child was due in Caddo District Court today to face trial on charges of attempted 3nd degree murder, but he did not make it to court.

Police believe 32-year-old Brandon Richardson shot and killed himself in the riverfront casino district early Monday morning.

Back on January 17, 2021, Richardson allegedly shot his former partner in the chest with a handgun. He was also accused of false imprisonment and aggravated assault. During that incident, Richardson pointed the gun at a man on the scene and held both his victim and the man at gunpoint before officers arrived.

The January 2021 shooting occurred during a custody exchange in which Richardson did not want to return the child to the mother. The shooting occurred in the presence of several witnesses, including young children.

Jury selection in the attempted second degree murder trial, to be before Caddo District Judge Donald Hathaway Jr., was to have begun today.
