Major Retailer Closing 6 Louisiana Stores: Including Shreveport

For a variety of reasons, sadly, the days of the old 'brick & mortar' stores are going the way of pay telephones and VHS players. Even though there are those who order groceries online, I think there will always be a place for some types of stores that people will still want to visit in person.

I know people who like to order their groceries and go have them loaded in their car, but I still want to pick out my own fresh eggs, milk, produce and meats. It might not matter as much with a can of pork and beans, but I don't want someone else picking out my bananas or yogurt.

But other retailers haven't faired as well over the past several years. Try to find a bookstore in your favorite mall. Wait... try to find a mall with ANY major retailers left.... Clothing stores are barely hanging on, and one of the hardest hit retailer sectors by drastically changing shopping trends, has been electronics.

Changing Retail Landscape

What were once stalwarts on the electronics retail front have all but disappeared from the retail landscape. Radio Shack was one of the first to bite the dust, but then was followed by Circuit City, CompUSA, and even Sears.

Now there appears to be another victim in the heartless world of the destination location retail outlet. Conn's HomePlus has recently announced they are closing over half of their more than 170 national locations, including 6 stores in Louisiana.

A recent story in USA Today reported that Conn's lost over $77 million last year. Because of this downturn in business, the company has decided to declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy and close 70 of its stores in 13 states.
