SHREVEPORT, LA - Before we know if, spring will be here and we will be thinking about getting outside and enjoying swimming pools around the area.

2 Shreveport public pools are getting major face lifts this year, but they are likely going to be ready for this summer.

What Pool Improvements Are Being Made?

The Bill Cockrell Park on Pines Road is getting an entirely new pool. This project also includes several new features:

A new shallow “play” pool (35’ wide by 75’ long) will be constructed within the footprint of the existing pool shell.

The new pool will offer various play and water features, such as a water mushroom, dumping buckets, and water cannons.

The new pool will also include a new slide tower that has an open flume body slide and an inter-twining closed flume body slide.

Much of the same work is also being done at the David Raines pool. Both will also be getting wheelchair lifts to ensure the pools offer full ADA accessibility.

SPAR officials also tell KEEL News all pool pump equipment is being replaced.

When Will the Work Start?

This is what might disappoint some. The work at the sites has not yet started. They are waiting for the permit to be issued. The city is awaiting the review by the State Department of Health.

Here's Some of the Work That Has Been Done:

SPAR officials say the body slide fabrication has started. Drawings for all of the slide foundations are expected to be complete before the end of January.

The demolition of the existing pool equipment is schedule to start next week, weather permitting.

The cost of the pool improvement is just under $3 million dollars for both pools.

The projects are expected to be finished by late summer of this year.
