SHREVEPORT, LA- Shreveport Police Rescue Infants from Sweltering Car; Two Arrested for Child Desertion
Shreveport Police Department officers rescued an eight-month-old and a two-year-old from a dangerously hot car parked at a local grocery store on North Market. The officers, responding to a distressing situation, forced entry into the vehicle, triggering its alarm and alerting the owners, Jacqueline Williams, 57, and Elizabeth Williams, 25, to return.
Both Jacqueline Williams and Elizabeth Williams were promptly taken into custody on the scene. The distressed juveniles were attended to by the Shreveport Fire Department and EMS personnel and transported to a nearby hospital after having been inside the vehicle for 30 minutes. We are relieved to report that the children are anticipated to make a full recovery.
The Williams duo now faces serious charges of two counts of child desertion. Additionally, Elizabeth Williams has been charged with resisting an officer for lying to officers about her name.
The alarming incident underscores the life-threatening consequences of leaving children unattended in hot vehicles. Despite an outside temperature of 82°F, the interior of the car reached a scorching 116°F within just 30 minutes.
The Shreveport Police Department urges all citizens to remain vigilant and responsible, particularly during warmer months, to prevent such tragic occurrences.
