What began as a community celebration turned tragic Tuesday night in Shreveport. Police say a 17-year-old boy was shot during a National Night Out gathering at A.B. Palmer Park, located on Line Avenue near East 79th Street.

Shreveport Police officers were called to the park just after 7 p.m.. Several visitors called 911 to report gunfire at the park. When officers arrived, they found the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was found in the playground area, where families had gathered for the annual neighborhood event.

Officers believe the teen and another man exchanged gunfire during this violent event.

A Community Event Turns to Chaos

Witnesses tell police the area was filled with children and families when the shots rang out, sending people running for cover. What was meant to be a night focused on building stronger ties between neighbors and law enforcement quickly turned into a crime scene.

Police immediately secured the park, taping off the area and focusing their search for shell casings and other evidence near the playground. Detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the scene late into the night.

Teen Victim Dies After Being Taken to Hospital

The 17-year-old victim was rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries, authorities confirmed. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members.

Investigation Ongoing Into Shreveport Park Shooting

At this time, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information or video from the area to contact Shreveport-Caddo Crime Stoppers.

The tragic shooting cast a somber shadow over what was supposed to be a night of community unity. As investigators work to piece together what happened, residents are left shaken and demanding answers.
