A big poker event is happening this week at the Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City. Folks from all over the south and Texas have converged on the region for the Southern Poker Blazing Summer Series.

I had a tough go early in the tournament on Wednesday. It was a struggle. But then I started getting some decent cards and my stack started to grow. More than 100 players entered the tournament and only 17 were going to get paid.

Some of these players were very aggressive. I was able to make a little money catching a few of them bluffing. I also made a couple of good hands with some lousy cards. A 5-deuce paid off for me once.

I kept pushing and watched the number of players dwindle. Once I got to the final table, I was short on chips and just couldn't get any cards. But I pulled in a pretty good pot when I called an "all-in" bet. I had Ace-King. He had Ace-Queen. My hand held up. This bumped my stack up a bit, but I was still on the struggle bus.

I did earn $300 dollars for knocking people out of this tournament. It was a bounty event and you got $50 bucks every time you knocked a player out. So I add that to my winnings too.

And here's how my run ended for me. I am the short stack at the table. I'm not getting cards any more. We get all the chips in. I finally had a middle pair. Chuck has Ace-ten. It looked like I was gonna double up until the very last card. That's poker.

So my 6th place finish paid about $850 dollars. Not too bad. But it was a long day. The tournament started at 10am and I didn't get home until about 8pm. But I had a blast and I am still trying to improve my game.

Check out the schedule of events and come try it out. The tournament is happening the rest of this week. Maybe I'll see you at the table.
