Shreveport Police Officers Hospitalized Following Fentanyl Exposure
A routine warrant execution turned into a medical emergency this morning in Shreveport. Two police officers are recovering after being exposed to what authorities believe was fentanyl while serving an arrest warrant at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Grimmett Drive.
Immediate Life-Saving Measures Administered by Fellow Officers
The incident unfolded rapidly when one officer began showing acute physical symptoms consistent with opioid exposure shortly after entering the residence. A fellow officer acted quickly, administering Narcan on-site to stabilize the individual.
However, the danger persisted; a second officer began exhibiting similar symptoms moments later. Both were rushed to a local medical facility for emergency evaluation and observation.

The Shreveport Fire Department provided immediate medical support at the scene, earning praise from police leadership for their rapid intervention. Following the extraction of the officers, specialized units took over the scene:
- SPD Narcotics: Leading the criminal investigation into the substances found.
- HazMat Units: Working to decontaminate the area and ensure the safety of other residents in the complex.
Current Status and Investigation
As of this afternoon, the Shreveport Police Department reports that both officers are doing well and remain in "good spirits." While the immediate threat has been neutralized, the 2000 block of Grimmett Drive remained a restricted area for several hours during the cleanup.
The investigation into the source of the substance is ongoing. No word has been released yet regarding the status of the original arrest warrant or potential new charges related to the exposure.
