Shreveport Man Arrested for Felony Cruelty to Animals
SHREVEPORT, LA- Shreveport Man Arrested for Felony Cruelty to Animals
On May 20 at approximately 5 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 8200 block of Harris Street in response to a welfare concern. The officers were informed of a disturbing incident involving the violent beating of a dog with a metal pipe.
Upon arrival, Shreveport Police Officers discovered the dog suffering from severe injuries, including multiple lacerations and knots on its body. Caddo Parish Animal Control was immediately contacted to conduct an investigation into the well-being of the animal.
Subsequently, Shreveport police officers arrested 26-year-old Justin Smith on one count of felony cruelty to animals and one count of threatening an official.
The Shreveport Police Department issued a statement saying:
The Shreveport Police Department condemns all acts of animal cruelty and takes such cases seriously. We urge anyone witnessing or suspecting animal abuse to report it immediately to the authorities.
Suspects are Innocent until proven guilty
