The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) has announced a DWI sobriety checkpoint set for this weekend in south Shreveport. The operation will begin on Friday, December 5, at 10:00 p.m. and is scheduled to continue into the early morning hours of Saturday, December 6.

The SPD confirms that the checkpoint will adhere to all safety guidelines mandated by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC). This proactive measure is part of the department's ongoing commitment to removing impaired drivers from the road and ensuring the safety of all motorists.

Plan Ahead to Avoid Impaired Driving

Police are strongly urging all citizens to make responsible choices if they plan to consume alcohol. Key advice from the SPD includes:

  • Designate a sober driver before heading out.
  • Call a cab or use a rideshare service if your original plan changes.
  • Always make a plan for safe transportation before consuming alcohol.
