Shreveport Woman Arrested for DWI Accident That Injured a Child

Yesterday, Shreveport Police officers responded to a major crash in the 2100 block of Greenwood Road.

When SPD Officers got to the scene, they found a Chevrolet Malibu that had left the roadway and overturned. The driver, identified as 34 year-old Jamie M. Young was traveling with three children, ages 2, 6, and 14.

An investigation determined that Young was exiting Interstate 20 East onto Greenwood Road when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle drove off the right side of the road and flipped.

All three children were unrestrained at the time of the crash, according to investigators. The 6 year-old child was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a serious head injury. The child was taken to Ochsner LSU Health with life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.

The other two children were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Young was taken in for chemical testing, where she submitted to a breath test that registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.19%. She was later taken to Ochsner LSU Health, where she voluntarily provided a blood sample.

Young was arrested and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, first-offense DWI, and multiple traffic-related charges.

This investigation is ongoing.
