37 year-old Andrew Adaway was accused back in 2022, of beating 72 year-old Bobby Young to death while he was in the Shreveport City Jail. Young was brought in for drug charges before Adaway was brought in for a simple assault charge. Police say Adaway was fine during the booking process, but began protesting when Officers tried to put him in a group cell.

Once Adaway was in the cell, he brutally attacked Young, hitting him in the head with his fists over a dozen times. Paramedics were called, and took young to the hospital, where surgery failed to save him from the pressure that had built-up on his brain caused by the severe beating. Young later died from his injuries.

Adaway was convicted unanimously by the jury, and deliberations took less than an hour. Adaway will return to court in August to receive sentencing. The mandatory punishment for this crime in Louisiana is life in prison at hard labor without the possibility of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
