A routine foot patrol in downtown Shreveport led to the arrest of an armed individual outside a local nightlife spot early Sunday morning, authorities said.

On June 21, 2026, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Shreveport Police officers with the Downtown Unit were patrolling the 400 block of Commerce Street. Officers reportedly spotted a man smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette near the entrance of Gigi's Martini Room.

Investigation Reveals Concealed Weapon and Extended Magazine

Upon approaching the individual, officers noted a strong odor of marijuana and initiated an investigation. During the encounter, police discovered that the suspect, identified as Deveion Lafitte, was carrying a concealed firearm in his waistband without a holster.

Officers seized a Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun, which was equipped with a 29-round extended magazine and loaded with 25 live rounds of ammunition. According to police, Lafitte admitted during the investigation that he had been inside the establishment earlier and had retrieved the firearm from his vehicle after leaving.

Suspect Facing Multiple Charges

Following the investigation, authorities determined that Lafitte was carrying the weapon in a negligent manner and was in possession of a concealed firearm at an alcoholic beverage outlet.

Lafitte was arrested and faces the following charges:

  • Negligent Carrying of a Concealed Handgun
  • Possession of a Firearm on the Premises of an Alcoholic Beverage Outlet

The handgun, extended magazine, and ammunition were seized and submitted into evidence.

Police Chief Commends Officers' Initiative

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith commended the Downtown Unit for their proactive work, emphasizing that standard foot patrols and officer initiative remain vital tools for public safety.

"Simple foot patrol and officer initiative continue to play a vital role in keeping illegal weapons and dangerous situations off the streets," Chief Smith said in a statement.
