Another Empty Storefront? At Home’s Future in Shreveport Uncertain
SHREVEPORT, LA - It's been a rough year for retailers all over the place, including Shreveport. Burlington Coat Factory in Shreveport has closed. Joann's Fabric has closed. Big Lots. Several Kohl's across the country have closed. It's just been a rough go for retailers across the board.
Retailers Big & Small Facing Numerous Challenges
Now, it sounds like another big retailer may be shutting down in the next few months. Another big chain is pointing to the tariff war as one of the reasons they might have to shut down some stores. The rising cost of goods and lack of spending by consumers is putting a strain on retail sales across the board.
The latest chain that could be headed for bankruptcy is At Home, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Texas-based home furnishings superstore operates more than 250 stories in 40 states, including 4 in Louisiana. At Home has one store in Shreveport on East 70th Street.
But these stores have been struggling.
How Will the Tariff's Impact At Home Stores?
Most of the products At Home sells come from overseas, many of them from China. Those goods just got hit with tariffs of more than 100%. Goods coming from Mexico and Canada have been hit with 25% tariffs. That is resulting in much higher prices for these items.

At Home is currently working with an advisory group along with an investment bank to try to figure out a roadmap for the future. But the big hang-up is debt. It the company can not get the debt in line, a bankruptcy filing could be the next step.
