
Shreveport Grocery Prices: A Breakdown of the Costliest Items
SHREVEPORT, LA - Grocery shopping trends have changed dramatically all across the area. Inflation has forced people to look for ways to trim spending. We have talked with lots of people in the Shreveport area to find out how they are dealing with the high grocery prices. Some say they are cutting out those high priced snacks. Others tell us they shop for the sale items.
I am one of many who now shop for groceries online. I save a ton of money because when I am in the store, I buy some many things on impulse. I am saving that cash now.
The Grocery Price Index has posted the most recent prices. We are not yet seeing much relief.

Prices on some items have dipped a bit, but prices are still inching up on others.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks the prices and these are some of the most expensive in north Louisiana.
Beef
Prices are still on the rise. We are paying about $8 dollars a pound on average. Prices for premium steaks specialty cuts are much higher.
Seafood
You are also paying premium prices for seafood. You will still see a 10% increase in the cost of shrimp and crab even in Louisiana.
Dairy
Cheese prices are up more than 9% over the past year. We are paying an average of $5.30 a pound for cheeses.

Olive Oil
This is one of the items that has gotten crazy expensive. Olive oil prices are up by about 125% compared to last summer.
Fresh Produce
Prices for several of these items are pretty pricey these days. We are paying almost $2 a pound for potatoes and more than $1.30 a pound for tomatoes.
Sweets
Prices on many treats are up, but specifically chocolate. We are paying 14% more for chocolate compared to one year ago. This is a direct result of crop diseases impacting cocoa harvests.
Coffee
If you get free coffee at work, be thankful. The average price for a pound of coffee in Shreveport has climbed to $5.50. That's 7.8% higher than the national average.
One of the ways you can offset these high costs is to look for the sales, use digital coupons and think about buying generic items, if they are available.
