United States Senator John Kennedy talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about his upcoming trip to Russia, who he hopes to see and what he - and others on the trip - hope to accomplish.

Kennedy tells KEEL listeners that he was asked by Ambassador to Russia John Huntsman to make the trip with Senators Richard Shelby of Alabama, Montana's Steve Daines and others. They will, says the Senator, "Meet with senior Russian officials," and they're currently trying to arrange for President Vladimir Putin to be part of that group.

Kennesy says, that when it comes to world events, "Russia needs to stay in its own lane," but adds that "Russia needs to help us confect a peaceful settlement in Syria," and that the Russians are in a negotiating mood because "the (current) sanctions are hurting their economy very, very badly."
