Prison Escapee and Hostage Killed in Claiborne Parish
A man who broke out of the David Wade Correction Center is dead and a young woman he kidnapped was also killed.
The manhunt started Thursday afternoon when officers noticed 39 year-old Deltra Henderson was missing from the Correctional Center in Claiborne Parish. Guards suspect Henderson stole a car after finding the wrecked vehicle not far from the prison complex.
The fugitive later hid out in a home on the prison property, not far from the wrecked vehicle. Officers from several agencies surrounded the building. Authorities worked to capture Henderson peacefully, but he fired shots at officers, and they returned fire, killing the escapee. Agents learned that Henderson stabbed the teenage girl before he was killed by agents.
Henderson, a trusty at David Wade Complex had been locked up at the facility for more than 15 years for three different convictions:
Distribution of cocaine - 10 years concurrent
Attempted armed robbery - 30 years concurrent
Aggravated burglary - 30 years concurrent
