Popular Appetizers for Your Louisiana Thanksgiving Gathering

If there's one thing that Louisiana is famous for, it's our unique food. Okay, we could also be considered famous for our music and abundant opportunities for hunting and fishing, but for the sake of this story, let's focus on our food.
Some of our fondest childhood memories probably focus on family time around the holidays. And of course, holidays mean awesome food! Although I specifically remember one instance of not-so-awesome food. We used to spend every Christmas Eve at my grandmother's house in Shady Grove in South Bossier. The table would always be just overflowing with culinary awesomeness.
But I remember the first year I ever saw one of the most disgusting items on the table. In the middle of the delicious turkey, green-bean casserole, and Li'l Smokeys bathing in a crockpot of BBQ sauce, someone had placed a tin of smoked oysters. I still, to this day, don't understand the appeal of smoked oysters.
But I digress. If you are married, you probably have to coordinate your holiday schedule with your spouse to be able to make family gatherings on both sides of the family. And if you're as lucky as I am, you've probably got favorites on both sides. And by favorites, I mean dishes!
I still miss Christmas Eve at my grandmother's house every year, but we've developed new traditions that are just as meaningful. We still do Christmas Eve with our cousins and their children, the major difference is now... We're the old people!
