A man was struck by an SUV while putting gas in his car on I-220 early Tuesday morning, sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Bossier City Police say that Eric James Dare had run out of gas at the I-220/I-20 interchange in Bossier. At about 1:15 a.m., Dare was putting gas in his Ford Taurus, which was parked on the inside shoulder where the on-ramps from I-20 merge onto I-220, when he was hit by a passing Honda Element.

He was transported to University Health in Shreveport with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Element and two women who were inside the Taurus were not injured.

No citations have been issued. The investigation into the accident continues.

UPDATE - At around 1:15 p.m., Bossier City Police reported that Eric James Dare succumbed to his injuries, and passed away at University Health in Shreveport.
