Shreveport Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Shreveport man late Wednesday evening.

Just after 9:00 PM on April 25, 2017, Shreveport Police were called to the 9200 block of Mansfield Road to an accident where a man had been run over by a vehicle as he was reportedly attempting to cross the road. When officers arrived on scene, they learned that the victim, 58-year-old Thomas Aldy, was critically injured after a 2003 Ford Expedition traveling north on Mansfield Road struck him as he attempted to cross the street. Aldy was taken via ambulance to University Health hospital where he later died.

The driver of the Expedition, 37-year-old Crystal Welch of the 300 block of Hillside Circle in Stonewall, Louisiana, was detained at the scene, and later transported to Shreveport Police headquarters for state mandated toxicology testing. Impairment on the part of Welch was not immediately suspected, however official results of tests have not yet become readily available. It appears, based on evidence gathered at the scene, Aldy was not using a designated crosswalk when he was struck. While charges against Welch are pending in her role in the accident, she was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on an unrelated warrant.

The crash remains under investigation.
