Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser Planning to Run for Governor of Louisian

Let the games begin. Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser has jumped out and told a crowd in south Louisiana he is planning to run for Governor in 2023.

He's been one of the leading contenders mentioned by many political experts for more than a year and now it looks like he is jumping in the race. Nungesser told a crowd in Lake Providence "I am planning on running.” The Lt. Governor says “I want to get through the mid-term elections, and I’ve got a lot of work to do before the end of the year. And the minute I announce, I won’t be spending tax dollars advertising tourism with me.”

Nungesser will then hit the campaign trail in January to begin getting his message out to voters.

Nungesser will likely have several contenders in the race, including many fellow Republicans. Attorney General Jeff Landry is considered a top prospect. State Treasurer John Schroder is mulling a possible run for Governor. State Senator Sharon Hewitt from Slidell is also mentioned in the conversation.

Those are just a few of the possible candidates from the Republican side. Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy are also talked about when the Governors race is mentioned.

On the Democratic side, a few names are starting to pop up. Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome, New Orleans city council member Helena Moreno and state senator Gary Smith are a few of the names coming up when political experts start talking about the race.
