National Weather Service Monitors Severe Threat Heading to Shreveport
Spring has arrived in the Shreveport and Bossier City area for sure. We have thick pollen coating everything, and weekly severe weather alerts.
As many locals deal with sinus problems thanks to allergies, others are trying to clean the yellow powder layer off everything they can. Which means everyone will be excited to see a little rain in the forecast. But they might not be as excited when the National Weather Service starts to attach the word "severe" along with it.
What Could Happen This Weekend in Shreveport and Bossier City?
Right now, the National Weather Service in Shreveport is watching for two periods of possible severe weather for this weekend across the Ark-La-Tex. With Shreveport being centrally located in their "threat assessments".
First, on Friday the National Weather Service is concerned about storms moving into the area during the afternoon and overnight hours. The timing is still unpredictable, but their confidence in severe weather has raised their risk level to "Marginal". That's the lowest risk on their ranking system, but still qualifies as a named risk.
The potential severe weather on Friday could include lightning, strong winds, hail, and tornadoes.
Will The Severe Threat Be Worse On Sunday?
Then on Sunday, the risks get stepped up. Moving from "Marginal" risk to "Slight" risk. Which might now sound as serious, but is actually an increase in risk assessment. Again, the timing of the storms isn't certain, but the area covered by the risk is pretty centered on Shreveport.
The risk on Sunday will once again include lightning, strong winds, hail, and a possibility of tornadoes. Heavy downpours are also included in the Sunday risk assessment.
