If you ride a Honda motorcycle in Louisiana, like I do, this is one of those recalls worth checking sooner rather than later.

More than 19,000 motorcycles from the 2023 through 2025 model years are under recall because a handlebar lock screw can loosen, detach, and interfere with steering. That kind of problem can turn serious in a hurry, especially for riders heading into spring and summer.

What Honda Bikes Are Included?

The recall covers certain Honda CL500, CMX300, and CMX500 motorcycles from the 2023 through 2025 model years. In all, 19,406 bikes are part of the recall.

That does not mean every motorcycle on the road in Louisiana has this issue, but it does mean owners of those models should stop and check their VIN as soon as possible. A lot of riders hear “recall” and assume it is just paperwork. In this case, the problem involves steering, so it deserves immediate attention.

What Is The Safety Risk for Louisiana Honda Riders?

According to federal recall documents, the handlebar lock screw can come loose and fall between the frame and the stem. If that happens, it can interfere with steering operation.

That is the part that matters most. When steering is affected on a motorcycle, the margin for error gets small fast. A loose or detached part is bad enough. A loose part that can jam steering is the kind of defect riders should not ignore.

Honda said it had one warranty claim involving a fall with no reported injuries in the U.S. as of early March. No deaths related to the issue were listed in the recall filing.

What Louisiana Riders Should Do Immediately

The fix will be handled by authorized Honda Powersports dealers. Dealers will replace the handlebar lock screw and apply thread-locking agent using the proper procedure, free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to begin around May 8, 2026, but riders do not have to wait on a letter to start checking. You can search your motorcycle’s VIN through NHTSA recall tools or contact Honda customer service directly.

For Louisiana riders, this is also a good reminder that spring riding season is the right time to check recalls, tires, brakes, lights, and anything involving steering or suspension. A quick VIN search takes a lot less time than dealing with a breakdown or a crash.

Most recalls sound technical. This one is pretty plain. A screw can loosen, come off, and affect steering. That is simple, serious, and easy to understand.

If you own one of these Honda models in Louisiana, this is not one to put off.
